Interested in selling your biomethane ?
The biomethane produced by your production facility can be valorized in several ways:
- If you produce less than 25 GWh per year:
Biomethane may be sold to a gas supplier under a purchase agreement, at the tariff set by the public authorities pursuant to the Order of 10 June 2023, for a period of 15 years. - If you produce more than 25 GWh per year:
You may enter into a direct biomethane supply agreement with a gas consumer (Biomethane Purchase Agreement – BPA).
Your biomethane may also be valorized through Biomethane Production Certificates (BPCs).
Nota bene: since 2024, energy suppliers are required by regulation to surrender predefined volumes of Biomethane Production Certificates (BPCs) to the State.
It is important to note that, prior to signing a purchase agreement, several administrative steps must be completed, such as site identification and the request for a prefectoral certificate granting eligibility for biomethane purchase. This certificate must be appended to the purchase agreement.
Finally, projects that so wish (and that do not benefit from a regulated purchase tariff) may now turn to a new mechanism: Biogas Production Certificates (BPCs). A BPC is allocated to a supplier in return for the purchase of biomethane at a price agreed with the producer. The effectiveness of this mechanism is ensured by the obligation placed on suppliers to surrender a fixed volume of BPCs to the State each year.
