NaTran and GRDF anticipate the end of France's B gas supply by the end of October 2027

Initiated in 2019 to prepare for the progressive phase-out of the B gas supply from the Groningen field, the project to convert the B gas pipeline network to H gas is reaching a new milestone.

Accelerated Conversion to H Gas

Thanks to the joint mobilization of NaTran, GRDF, and all stakeholders involved, the project schedule has been significantly optimized. Initially expected in March 2028, the conversion of the last sector, located in Maubeuge, will take place several months ahead of schedule. The projected end of France's B gas supply is therefore now estimated for the end of October 2027. This helps strengthen the security of supply for the 2027/2028 winter and generate economic benefits for network users.

 

The schedule for the main upcoming contractual changes for shippers is as follows:

  • As of April 1, 2027, the Gournay storage facility will be marketed in H gas and attached to the North-West PITS;  
  • On that same date, the North B PITS will disappear;  
  • Upon the conversion of the final Maubeuge sector, the Taisnières B contractual point will cease to exist, along with the B gas to H gas conversion service marketed by NaTran.
