Wednesday, October 1, 2025

NaTran, France's primary gas transmission operator and the second largest in Europe, a company firmly committed to the energy transition, has just announced that Pierre Duvieusart, Deputy CEO of NaTran, has been appointed President of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG). He will take over from Bart-Jan Hoevers, CEO of Gasunie Transport Services (GTS), in the Netherlands. His term is set to last three years until 31 December 2027, and evidences NaTran's expertise and the central role it plays in Europe's energy transition.

Pierre Duvieusart appointed CEO of ENTSOG

Role of ENTSOG

ENTSOG, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas, was created by the European Commission in 2009 and is made up of 40 or so national gas transmission operators.

ENTSOG plays a strategic role in building an integrated European energy system that is resilient and interconnected, and able to securely and reliably meet the energy requirements of Member States, while at the same time helping the EU to meet its decarbonisation targets. By 2050, ENTSOG will be actively contributing to the target of achieving net zero, encouraging the incorporation of renewable and low-carbon gases into the transmission networks.

Missions of Pierre Duvieusart

Pierre Duvieusart will represent ENTSOG in its dealings with European institutions and external stakeholders.
He will oversee cooperation with ENNOH (the European Network of Network Operators for Hydrogen) and ENTSO-E (the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity). He will ensure that operators keep to the EU's regulatory targets in terms of security of supply, market competitivity and sustainability.

This appointment showcases the key role that NaTran plays on the European energy landscape. The Group is Europe's second largest Transmission system operator and is made up of subsidiaries such as Elengy (the European leader in LNG terminals) and NaTran Deutschland (which operates the MEGAL network in Germany), as well as a globally renowned R&D centre (NaTran R&I).

“Pierre’s appointment as head of ENTSOG crowns his exemplary career and affirms NaTran’s status as a leading operator in Europe. I am absolutely certain that he will embrace, with ambition and rigour, the challenges of security, interconnection, and planning that are essential to the success of Europe’s energy transition”

Sandrine Meunier

NaTran’s CEO

“Gas flows have been reversed in Europe since 2022, and it is against this backdrop that all ENTSOG members have demonstrated the flexibility and resilience of Europe's gas transmission infrastructure”. Continuing along this path is vital, while at the same time accelerating efforts to bring about an efficient decarbonised energy system for the whole continent. That’s why I will pay special attention to working closely alongside ENNOH and ENTSO-E to contribute to optimised planning in support of industrial policies and efficiency”
