In Berlin, Expanding H2med Alliance Meets to Accelerate the Deployment of the Most Advanced European Hydrogen Corridor with Key Political Support.

The H2med Alliance, established in December 2024 by the five H2med promoters, REN (Portugal), Enagás (Spain), NaTran and Teréga (France) and OGE (Germany), alongside leading energy and technological companies, has confirmed its rapid expansion during a meeting held today at the Palais Populaire in Berlin.

The Berlin event was marked by strong political backing across the whole corridor, expressed by Mr Stefan Rouenhoff, Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, in the presence of Mr Manuel Garcia Hernandez, General Director of Energy Policy and Mines of Spain, Mr Laurent Kueny, Director for Energy at the Ministry of Economics and Industrial Sovereignty of France and Mr Paulo Carmona, General Director of Energy and Geology of Portugal. Ms Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Deputy Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, has also emphasized the Commission’s endorsement of H2med, which is one of the priority ‘Energy Highways’ presented by President Ursula von der Leyen in her State of the Union address, on the 10th of September.

In line with this endorsement, the Portuguese, Spanish and French backbones, as well as the interconnectors CelZa (between Portugal and Spain) and BarMar (between Spain and France), are supported by a grant under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy.

During this dialogue, the high-level representatives stressed the importance of cross-border cooperation between the different parties of the corridor. Industry stakeholders further highlighted the necessity of converging on timelines to ensure the economic viability of projects and foster market development.
This event underscores the Alliance’s commitment to uniting stakeholders across the H2med value chain and fostering dialogue on key topics, with the aim of strengthening commercial ties between market participants.

In the coming months, the H2med Alliance will step up its efforts and continue to serve as a vital platform to grow synergies, launching working groups and fostering strategic business relationships.

These actions are in line with recent joint declarations of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz, on Friday 29th August 2025, who reaffirmed their common priority and long-term commitment to supporting the swift and “timely” realisation of the H2med Corridor in the common economic agenda.
