The site has been redesigned enable all audiences—including clients, industrial partners, and academic or institutional stakeholders—to quickly identify the full range of NaTran R&I activities: programs, projects, initiatives, and collaborations.
It also highlights the role of research and innovation at NaTran in supporting the energy transition the resulting transformations.

Introduced by the ‘About Us’ video, filmed up close with the teams and on our premises, this page gives you a quick overview of NaTran R&I’s history, its ecosystem, its services, its areas of expertise and the five programmes currently underway.

An overview of the five research programmes

This section routlines the objectives and context of each program, supported by fact sheets detailing the various projects and pilot initiatives.

  • H2 & CO2: preparing networks for the arrival of new gases
  • IMPACT: reducing the environmental impact of the gas supply chain
  • NEW CH4: preparing networks for the arrival of new methane sources
  • PREPARE: adapting, modeling, and managing the networks of the future
  • SENTINEL: ensuring the integrity and safety of gas infrastructure

An overview of the five research programmes

The ecosystem

To strengthen its scientific expertise, NaTran R&I has launched, since its creation in 2018, numerous initiatives and national and international collaborations.

Examples of two flagship initiatives: 

  • Nova by NaTran: an incubator designed to deepen collaboration with startups focused on the energy and environmental transition and on operational performance.
  • Open Innovation Factory: an innovation initiative aimed at finding innovative, operational solutions to challenges faced by NaTran’s business lines.

Focus on internal mechanisms:

These initiatives are designed both to develop methods for collaborative innovation and to highlight innovative projects, with the aim of accelerating their roll-out in the field and on an industrial scale.

Two examples of internal initiatives:

  • Design Lab Innovation: support for innovative projects whose methods of analysis, co-creation of solutions and associated testing prioritize the user experience.
  • Challenge Innovation by NaTran: an annual initiative open to all departments that identifies, rewards and supports innovative initiatives with the aim of rolling them out more widely within the company, and even externally.

Talents

With women making up 40% of the workforce, the teams comprise a wide range of cutting-edge scientific and technical professionals. 
The testimonials videos featured on the site showcase this diversity of profiles. 
A prime example is the "Talents in the Spotlight" series, in which each episode presents the career path and role of a specific expert.
