Storage Swap Extended for Three Years Between Storengy and NaTran
The storage swap was initially implemented on a trial basis over the past two winters to address South-North congestion issues. It is operated by Storengy, at NaTran’s request, under a service agreement.
This mechanism has significantly reduced the need for the localized spread mechanism to manage South-North congestion on the French network by proactively transferring stock between storage facilities located on either side of congestion points.
The storage swap has proven to be an effective and cost-efficient solution, having handled 225 GWh of congestion over the past two winters and avoided localized spread costs estimated at 605,000 €.
Pierre Cotin, Director of Customer and Network Optimization at NaTran, and Samia Adel, Commercial and Strategy Director at Storengy, signed the new contract on october 1st 2025. The contract incorporates the adjustments decided by the CRE, notably allowing its use as early as October 1st instead of November 1st previously.
